Girl hit by car in bizarre accident will need surgery for broken leg
A 10-year-old girl struck by a car in a bizarre accident is slated to undergo surgery to repair broken bones in her right leg.
Madonna Manibo said on Thursday she and her daughter, Kaitlin, were walking to the bank near Machray Avenue around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when Kaitlin was struck by a car going in reverse at high speed about 50 metres across the bank parking lot.

Manibo said Kaitlin was thrown by the impact, and "everything happened so fast." She said her daughter was on the ground, bleeding, with a bone broken through the skin on her lower right leg.
She said Kaitlin has already had surgery to insert pins in the leg, but part of the bone is still exposed. Manibo said she needs further surgery, and doctors say she will remain in hospital until next week.
"She's so strong," Manibo said, during a brief stopover at home to change her clothes before returning to the hospital. "It's our baby."
Kaitlin is the youngest of the Manibos' two girls, and Madonna Manibo said she stopped at the bank to pay for the girls' piano lessons.
Police said the 86-year-old driver was backing out of a parking stall adjacent to the Bank of Montreal branch when the Chevrolet Malibu accelerated in reverse across the parking lot.
The driver was unable to stop the car. He struck the girl as she was walking across the lot's entrance and the car came to a stop when it struck a nearby tree.
The force of the collision knocked the girl into the middle of Machray Avenue.
Police said no charges have yet been laid but the investigation is continuing.
Madonna Manibo said the driver did not speak to her as paramedics assessed her daughter's condition at the scene. Leo Manibo, Kaitlin's father, said he does not think the elderly man should have been allowed behind the wheel of a car.
He said his daughter is in a lot of pain, and this should not have happened. "Look what happened to my little girl," he said.
