Jets return, and so do the negative comments
The anonymous (and evidently ticketless) on-line hordes have spoken -- the Jets' honeymoon is over.
For them, at least.
Many commenters to the Free Press website after the Jets' 4-1 home-opener loss to the Ottawa Senators Saturday don't like Evander Kane, they don't like Ondrej Pavelec, they don't like the Jets' talent level and effort and they think we're doomed to a short and sad season.
Other than that, they were grumpy all around.
Here are a few of their astute observations, somewhat abridged for grammar and spelling:
rat river king:
"With this condensed schedule, we will see some very tired players giving the fans some very pathetic games."
gustos:
"Kane... has to be the slowest Jet out there, and he is being paid how much? The Alexandre Daigle of the Jets."
Daigle? Ouch.
Stu Danach:
"Great to have hockey back, but this game is so B.O.R.I.N.G... plus Scheifele looks so (...now don't get mad at me...) mediocre!"
Ozzy:
"About what I expected. Jets coaches, players and execs talk a fine game but play a stinky brand of hockey. Nice to see things haven't changed -- most of our players are soft as marshmallows. LOVEABLE LOSERS!"
Mad as Hell:
"Time to put in Al Montoya."
Squid:
"Well, at least now Coach Noel knows he can focus in on three items: skating, passing and shooting."
Daisy Flowers:
"There is no slowing down Evander. He hasn't missed a beat and continuing where he left off with the KHL. Mr. Consistency!"
KevinSC:
"THUD -- the sound of reality hitting Jet Fanboyz Nation square in the forehead."
Only The Lonely:
"Reminds me of the start of every Bomber season: so much hope and promise... and then they play the first game."
Ewww, that one hurt.
Rxl650:
"Hello, high draft pick! Goodbye, Claude Noel! Hello, Brent Sutter! I know it's the first game, but same old mistakes. And, of course, we'll all have to listen to Noel make excuses for the players AGAIN! Country Club atmosphere!"
But chin up, lads, some fans are still with you in cyberspace.
Rodney2:
"Boy oh boy, the haters are giddy with glee. Jets lose the first game of the season and they all get to spout their usual 'worst in the world' claptrap clichés. Unfortunate the Jets lost, but true fans will be watching every game the rest of the way. If the Jets are so bad, I respectfully ask the downers to stop watching or go live somewhere that has a Stanley Cup contender. You aren't going to change anybody's mind here anyway."
Shmoo:
"Far too many negative people who troll these things. Negativity breeds negativity. It seems comfortable for many to be this way. How about trying to show some support and encouragement and take your downer attitude somewhere else, maybe with your equally downer friends. Trolls, trolls and more negative troll. Always the same people, too. Your lives must suck. Let's be a bit more encouraging to this team, good or bad."
That's more of Go Jets Go attitude, eh?
And speaking in support of the home side...
commander1:
"The Jets could go 0-48 for the season for all I care. Still beats being a lowly, pathetic AHL minor league hockey town, playing in our NHL-calibre, NHL-quality arena against cities no one's ever heard of!"
This last one, does anyone out there agree?
ICE MAN:
"Inaugural regular season game, October 2017, ladies and gentlemen, please rise and welcome your very own Kitchener-Waterloo Jets!!"
