Ladd's a happy pappy
Jets captain on hand for son's early arrival
ANDREW LADD'S extensive bio already included nuggets like two-time Stanley Cup champion, 2005 World Junior Dream Team member and captain of the Winnipeg Jets.
And now a new addition, literally and figuratively: proud papa.
Ladd and his wife, Brandy, became parents for the first time on Wednesday with the arrival of their son, Locklan Joseph. Ladd missed practice on Wednesday to be in the delivery room with his wife but was back in full gear a day later.
"It was an amazing experience. I was there through the whole thing," said Ladd. "Anyone's that had a chance to witness their child being born, it's unlike anything else. I can't really put it into words."
Locklan, which is also Andrew's middle name, came into this world a bit earlier than predicted, but his timing couldn't have been better.
"It's nice because starting Saturday (with the opening of the NHL season) we were going to be busy and unable to predict where I was going to be," said Ladd. "The first time I left him (for practice) it was not a good feeling. It's not something I want to get used to, but it's something I guess I'll have to deal with.
"It's the first grandchild on both sides so I'm sure he'll be spoiled."
Asked if he'll have to score a goal in Saturday's home opener against the Ottawa Senators to commemorate the arrival of his first-born, Ladd grinned.
"Yeah, I think so," he said. "I'm going to have to come up with a good effort with the family coming into town to see him. It's an exciting time and something I'll never forget."
