Kennerd seeking Conservative nomination

Former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Trevor Kennerd is the likely Conservative candidate in Winnipeg South Centre, a federal riding the Tories have been trying to steal from Liberal MP Anita Neville for years.

Kennerd, a place-kicker with the Blue Bombers in the 1980s, announced this morning that he was seeking his party‘s nomination. He doesn‘t appear to have any challengers and the vote is expected in a little over a month, barring a snap federal election call.

Kennerd, who now runs his own marketing and communications firm, said taxes and crime would likely top his list of key issues, though he is hoping to hear from constituents once the campaign gears up.

Winnipeg South Centre has been Liberal since the 1970s, held most notably by former Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy, the current University of Winnipeg president.
