Man, 49, dead after assault at St. B home

A 49-year-old man is dead from an assault in a quiet St. Boniface neighbourhood Friday night.

Police were called to a bungalow in the 500 block of St. Catherine Street to tend to the injured male. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A man and woman in their 40s lived in the home, finished in white clapboard and brown trim, according to one neighbour.

A Christmas wreath with a red ribbon still hung from the home's mail box on Saturday. The home was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

St. Catherine Street is a short street between Rue Archibald and the Seine River.

Police are asking anyone who observed any suspicious vehicle or person in the area Friday night to contact them at 204-986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
