An arrest has been made in the stabbing death of a man whose body was found Tuesday in an apartment at the Manitoba Housing complex at 375 Assiniboine Avenue.

Police said Hank Louis Lecoy, 55, was stabbed to death in his 16th-floor apartment. He is Winnipeg's 28th homicide victim of the year.

Sheldon Tony Genaillie, 50, has been charged with second-degree murder and detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. He was arrested about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in  the vicinity of the 300 block of Kennedy Street.

On Nov. 4 the victim and several other people were socializing in the suite. A male present became upset with the victim and stabbed him in the upper body causing fatal injuries, police said this morning.

Police had received a call earlier in the day from someone they would identify only as a member of the public, who was worried about Lecoy and asked police to check on him, Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen said.

Lecoy was no stranger to tragedy, or mystery.

Police were familiar with Lecoy, after issuing three separate missing person alerts for him earlier this year.

Between Jan. 28 and March 23, police reported Lecoy missing three times and asked for the public's help to locate him. Each time, Lecoy was found within 24 hours.

As usual with missing person reports, no explanation was given for Lecoy's disappearance or his condition when found.

Lecoy isn't the first member of his family to die tragically. In December 2005, his younger brother, Frank, 30, was found unconscious near Ross Avenue and Ellen Street. He had been beaten in his upper body and died in hospital from his injuries.

A man was arrested two days later and charged with second-degree murder.
