Manitoba acts rock the WECC

The West End Cultural Centre continued celebrating its 25 years of presenting music on Saturday night.
Following Friday's sold-out performance by local thrash-punk icons Propaghandi, the centre presented more than a dozen Manitoba musical acts on Saturday.
In a nod to the depth of Manitoba music, the performers were asked in advance not to perform their own songs, but to do ones by other songwriters from the province.
That's why Keri Latimer and Red Moon Road were playing Propaghandi's We Thought Nation States Were a Bad Idea and Remy Shand's Take a Message, Nicky Mehta of the Wailin' Jennys and Nancy Reinhold of The Wyrd Sisters teamed up to play Lloyd Peterson's Gardens, and JD Edwards and Cara Luft performed Neil Young's Don't Let It Bring You Down.
Other artists who were performing included Heather Bishop, Ismaila Alfa, Nathan Rogers, Scott Nolan and Vanessa Kuzina.
Al Simmons hosted the show, which celebrated the cultural centre's ongoing commitment to supporting local music, culture and community.
Winnipeg thrash-punk band Propagandhi played a sold-out show at the West End Cultural Centre Friday night as part of the Ellice Avenue venue's 25th anniversary celebration. The party continues Saturday night, with nearly two dozen local roots musicians hitting the stage.
