Donations flood in for victim of scooter theft

Kevin O’Leary lost his scooter in a van theft, but Winnipeggers who heard his story have made sure he won't lose money because of it. Early Wednesday morning, the scooter was stolen from a locked van outside O'Leary's Elm Park Road home.

The insured scooter — which is worth about $1,700 and has a $500 deductible – helps transport O'Leary because of mobility problems he has due to multiple sclerosis. After his story was published in the Free Press, radio station HOT 103 publicized O'Leary's plight and donations came in from Booster Juice locations around the city.

"It's awesome," said O'Leary. "It's one worry less now."

Public donations worth $500 were collected through two locations at the St. Vital Centre and on Dakota Street.

Another $250 came in from other Winnipeg Booster Juice locations. And then the Booster Juice head office in Edmonton donated $1,000. The money is to go to paying off O'Leary's deductible, and any other items that need fixing.
