Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION

See TSN live at FP News Café

TSN 1290 is going intimate and interactive at the Winnipeg Free Press News Café on Wednesday.

The all-sports radio station will take its full daytime lineup on the road from its Pembina Highway studios to 237 McDermot Ave.

The Big Show, featuring Troy Westwood and Jay Richardson, will kick things off at 6 a.m. and run until 11 a.m. The Rona Roundtable, hosted by Rick Ralph, will follow until 3 p.m., then Hustler and Lawless, featuring Andrew Paterson and Free Press columnist Gary Lawless, will wrap up the day with the final three hours.

We'll be live streaming the Hustler & Lawless Sports Show starting at 4 p.m. today.

The focus of all three shows? The current state of the NHL lockout, of course.

Chris Brooke, TSN 1290's program director, said the station has aired individual shows from the News Café before and thought Wednesday, the day before the NHL's deadline to salvage an 82-game season, was an ideal time to dedicate an entire day to the labour stoppage.

"We'll have lots of special guests to provide additional insight. More importantly, we want to hear from our listeners and Free Press readers. They can come down to the News Café, interact with us and ask some questions. We'll have an open mike set up there. Or they can do it on the phone or Twitter," he said.

"Our scene is, 'The season is in the balance, a deadline looms.' That's pretty much the Rubicon."

If, by some miracle of labour negotiations, a deal is completed, Brooke said the station will quickly shift gears and invite guests such as Jets co-owner Mark Chipman and coach Claude Noel on to talk about the relief of having the whole process over with and look toward the season ahead.

Otherwise, TSN insiders, such as Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie, will form a big part of the day's programming.

"Things can change very quickly," Brooke said.
