Seth MacFarlane rules out Oscars return
Seth MacFarlane won't host the Oscars again.
The 'Family Guy' creator - who has received a mixed response for his anchoring of the prestigious ceremony on Sunday (02.24.13) - had a lot of "fun" at the helm of the Academy Awards, but insists it isn't an experience he doesn't want to repeat.
He tweeted: "Would you host the #Oscars again if asked? No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though. (sic)"
Referring to the test used to assess the character of Starfleet Academy cadets in 'Star Trek', he added: "The Oscars is basically the Kobayashi Maru test."
Seth has come under fire for his risque jokes and cheeky songs such as 'We Saw Your Boobs' - a musical tribute to actress who have gone topless on film - but some insiders think the criticism is unfair as the 39-year-old star is known for his daring humor.
One film director told the New York Daily News newspaper:
"I don't blame Seth. He basically did his stock and trade. Why hire the guy if you didn't want his brand of humor? I actually thought, as a fan of 'Family Guy,' that he was pretty restrained."
And despite the backlash against his hosting skills, Academy Awards bosses are said to be pleased with his performance after the ceremony attracted 45 million viewers.
A source said: "Many of them were young men 18-34 years old. And that's exactly the audience we wanted to grow."
