Snowplowing zones changed, city says
Check again to know when to move vehicles

Think you know your snow zone so you can get your vehicle off the street before the plows come?
Better check again.
Ken Boyd, the city's manager of streets maintenance in the public works department, said Monday if Winnipeggers checked their snow zone last year -- when the lack of substantial snow resulted in no residential snowplowing all season -- they might find things have changed.
"We made changes due to garbage and recycling pickup," Boyd said.
"There's a good chance your zone has changed from last year."
Boyd said all of the city's residential streets will be plowed in five 12-hour shifts.
Those shifts started Monday night at 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with the first parking ban for zones D, F, I, M, N, R and V.
Today's parking ban starts at 7 a.m. and goes to 7 p.m., and covers zones E, H, K, O, S and U. The city will announce which zones are under the parking ban for tonight and tomorrow sometime today.
Residents who don't move a vehicle will receive a $150 ticket, or $75 if paid within two weeks, and be towed by the city to a street that has already been plowed or to a zone that is not scheduled to be plowed at that time.

Boyd said more than 250 pieces of equipment will be used during the residential snowplow operation, and he expects the cost will be $3 million on top of the more than $1 million already spent to clear major streets.
He said he expects all back lane and sidewalk plowing will be completed in the next few days.
