Beating victim city's 22nd homicide

Winnipeg recorded its 22nd homicide of the year today with the death of a 35-year-old man in hospital from injuries suffered early Saturday in a beating outside a downtown nightclub.

Police said today the man was seriously hurt in an assault involving several people outside Club 200 on Garry Street.

Police said the fight happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. and at this point detectives have little information to go on to identify a suspect or suspects.

Call the Winnipeg Police Service's Homicide Unit at 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477 (TIPS) if you have information.

A police spokesman said investigators do not know if the victim was a patron of the nightclub.

In another incident, a 29-year-old man was shot early Saturday on Boyd Avenue. The man later died in hospital.

A witness said that at about 4 a.m. a brawl broke out on the front street with a young man being punched and kicked.

The man managed to get up and walk away, yelling at his attackers he would come back and shoot them

About two hours later a car zoomed by the house and four shots rang out.

Police said detectives are still investigating. No one has been arrested.
