Juno nominees congratulated

The province’s Culture and Heritage Minister Eric Robinson congratulated Manitoba’s Juno nominees in a statement Wednesday.

“Manitoba music continues to be at the forefront of the vibrant Canadian music scene,” Robinson said. He included Manitobans who live here and ones who are from the province.

“I wish all the Manitoba artists attending the Juno awards well.”

The Junos are Canada’s music awards. This year the show is being held April 6 in Calgary.

The 2008 Juno nominees from Manitoba are:

Manitoba band and Canadian folk music award winner Nathan for roots and traditional album with his third release Key Principles.

Singer/songwriter Little Hawk (Troy Westwood) for aboriginal music recording of the year for Home and Native Land.

Singer/songwriter Amanda Falk for contemporary Christian/gospel album of the year for her second release Beautiful. Falk took a Juno in 2006 in the same category for her self-titled debut release.

Brandon native and four-time Juno winner James Ehnes for two nominations, one with former Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra conductor Bramwell Tovey.

Loreena McKinnett and Julie Knowles for Nights from Alhambra as DVD of the year.

Tom Cochrane for No Stranger as adult alternative album of the year.
