Manitoba had record population growth in 2007 according to new figures released today from Statistics Canada.
The population data revealed that more people moved to Manitoba from across the country than had left, including 414 persons who moved here from Alberta.
"Manitoba is on a roll and continues to reach important milestones," Andrew Swan, Competitiveness, Training and Trade Minister, said in a prepared statement.
Some of the findings from the Statistics Canada data include:
9,200 more people moved to Manitoba than left, an increase of 7,781 over 2006 and the highest level in 35 years.
10,947 international immigrants arrived in Manitoba in 2007.
The province's population increase is ahead of the national average for the first time since 1984, and fourth best among provinces.
The population of Manitoba increased by nearly 13,100 in 2007, the second-highest increase since 1972.
"People are taking notice that Manitoba is a great place to live, work and raise a family and the results are being seen," Swan said. "We continue to offer outstanding employment opportunities and an affordable cost of living and we look forward to reaching the 1.2 million population mark very soon."
