Student arrested for bringing knives to school

Windsor Park Collegiate was locked down for more than two hours today when a 16-year-old male student brought several knives to school, according to Louis Riel School division superintendent Terry Borys said.

Police were called to the school when administrators realized the student had knives, Borys said.

Students at Windsor Park Collegiate leave the building shortly after a lockdown was lifted. The lockdown began just before noon when a student was discovered in the school with knives.

"The student was apprehended. Apparently the student did not have any intentions, there was not anything he was going to do with the knives," said Borys, who praised police and school staff for their handling of the situation.

The youth was arrested and is facing a variety of charges in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody.

Borys said students were given a late lunch break and classes resumed at 2 p.m.
