Ultra-marathoner runs in Winnipeg today Video available here

Ultra-marathoner Ray Zahab will run at The Forks today with Assembly of First Nations Grand Chief Phil Fontaine -- part of the third leg of Zahab’s daily 80-kilometre runs.

Zahab is running the equivalent of almost two full marathons each day for 13 days to raise awareness of the ONE X ONE Foundation, a charity committed to fighting poverty and preserving the lives of children in Canada and around the world.

Zahab was to begin today’s run at The Forks at 5 a.m., run along the Red and Assiniboine rivers, and then be joined by Fontaine at noon at The Forks.

Each day, Zahab will run in one of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories.

At 2:40 p.m. today, Zahab will run with students at Victoria-Albert School in the inner city, then finish at The Forks at 3:30 p.m.

For more information, visit www.canadaonexone.com or www.rayzahab.com.

Throughout the physically demanding and logistically difficult marathon, Zahab will visit -- and even run with –- diverse groups of Canadians, including schoolchildren, local activists, and star athletes in each city he visits.

Zahab, a resident of Chelsea, Que., is best-known for becoming the first Canadian to run across the Sahara Desert.
