Grants help Manitoba aboriginal children

Philanthropist Charlie Coffey will be in Winnipeg today to announce grants to four projects helping aboriginal children meet their needs and reach their potential.

Established in 2006, The Coffey Fund will hand over $23,000 in grants today to:

Turtle Island Tots and Families, an early child development centre in Point Douglas, which receives $4,000 to enhance play stations;

$10,000 for improvements to the baby sign language program at Manidoo Gi-Miini Gonaan, the infant centre for students attending R.B. Russell High School;

Prince Edward Babies to 4 and Their Caregivers early child development and parenting centre receives $4,000 for outreach;

And there is $5,000 for the creation of a language/literacy centre at Mis Ko Mune Dous/Miko Manitosis Inc., the Little Red Spirit program in West Broadway that works with aboriginal children aged two to five.
