Manitobans will soon have another card to add their wallet — a medication card.
The Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety launched the free It’s Safe to Ask Medication Card today.
"Patients can play an important and valued role in their own safety by knowing as much as possible about their medications and sharing that information with pharmacists, doctors and nurses," Laurie Thompson, Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety executive director, said in a statement.
"The institute is urging all Manitobans who take medications to fill out the card and carry it in their wallets, purses or pockets to all health care appointments and when they go to the hospital."
The cards will list the name, strength, quantity and frequency of any medications a patient is taking.
The Manitoba government is paying $50,000 toward printing, distribution and promotion of around 200,000 of medication cards. The cards will be available at doctors offices, community health agencies, and pharmacies.
