Winnipeg Fire Department captain Don Black said an investigation is underway to determine how the fire started. There was no information on the injuries to the home owners, but indications are they were related to smoke inhalation.
Black said the damage was restricted to the back deck area.
"The fire didn't extend to the premises," he said.
One neighbour who lives near the house on the 1000 block of Radisson Avenue said he heard the sirens and saw smoke coming out of the gazebo on the back deck of the one-and-a-half storey house.
A charred cardboard box and sun umbrella could be seen in the back yard but the gazebo itself did not appear burned from the outside.
