Raid nets high-end explosives

Two people are in custody following a massive police raid on a North End home where loaded machine guns and sticks of commercial-grade explosives were found Thursday evening.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police evacuated several homes in the area of 798 Atlantic Ave. to execute a search warrant.

After entering the home at around 8 p.m., police seized two Sten sub-machine guns, two military-issue assault rifles and 36 sticks of shapable explosives used in the mining industry to blast out sections of rock.

Police said the amount of explosives had the capacity to cause substantial damage to the home and its surroundings if they had gone off.

The rifles and machine guns were also found loaded and ready for use.

Police also seized a large amount of ammunition for the guns.

Michael Alan Lavallee, 24, and Jamie Michelle Sinclair, 25, were arrested in the home and are facing numerous firearms and explosives-related charges.

Both have been detained at the Remand Centre.

Neighbours at the scene said the home is rented, and there had been suspicious activity at the shabby brown house in recent months.
