Crack your thumb knuckles, limber up your wrists, and boot up that video game console in the basement. Your chance to become the next Canadian video game superstar may be just around the corner.
A cross-country gaming tour dubbed Amp Your Game comes to The Forks Thursday looking for Canada's best gamer to audition for the national Amp Energy Pro team.
"With the growing popularity of gaming, there's a great opportunity to make a career out of it," said team captain Nelson Triana. "I know it's hard for people to believe, but we actually get paid to play video games."
The tour brings local gamers a chance to meet the Amp Energy Pro team of Triana, Leo Vitelli, and Bo Kovacevic, and a 3,500-square-foot display of 80 gaming stations running the latest video games which will be set up near the Scotiabank stage at the Forks. The game display will be open from noon to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Interested gamers can register online at http://www.ampenergy.ca and can compete online against the pro team if they cannot attend in person. Four finalists will be chosen in each city and four from online play. The winner will be announced after the tour ends August 10.
