Winnipeg Goldeyes slugger Brent Metheny is heading to Taiwan.

Reports coming out of the Northern League meetings today in Winnipeg suggest the Goldeyes' third baseman's contract has been purchased by a team in Taiwan and the all-star will be leaving the team on Monday.
Metheney confirmed the reports and said he will be making a statement about the move before tonight's Northern League all-star game at 7 p.m. at Canwest Park.
Metheney has been on a tear of late, putting together a 27-game hitting streak in June that tied the Goldeyes' team record held by former Fish slugger Luis Ortiz and left him one game short of the league record held by Cory Harris.
Metheney, who has picked up player of the week honours fairly regularly during June, has also helped out manager Rick Forney's club by taking turns at first base and behind the plate.
