Vote for your top city slogan - twice

Watch out, Winnipeg: You now have not one, but two slogan contests.

Mayor Sam Katz says he's been so inspired by suggestions for a new tagline for the city's new welcome signs, he decided to let Winnipeggers make the decision.

The mayor has come up with five options, three of which are the same slogans floated by a Free Press contest.

Katz is asking Winnipeggers to choose between the following suggestions:

1. Centre of it All

2. City of Opportunity

3. Heart of the Continent

4. Heart of the Country

5. (We don't want a slogan, just a new sign!)

Winnipeggers have until Friday, July 25 to send their vote to

feedback@winnipeg.ca, along with their contact information, or write to "Welcome to Winnipeg," c/o Mayor's office, Council Building, 510 Main St., Winnipeg, Man. R3B 1B9.

The Free Press, meanwhile, continues to offer the following five slogans in a contest of its own:

1. Centre of it all

2. City of Opportunity

3. Heart of the Continent

4. Not just the Middle of the Road

5. Muddy Waters, Clear Skies

Readers may vote online here or write to "Slogan vote," c/o Editorial Department, Winnipeg Free Press, 1355 Mountain Avenue, R2X 3B6.

Regardless of what happens with with either contest, Winnipeg will receive new welcome signs by the end of the summer. Destination Winnipeg plans to place 10 new placards at entrances to the city, reusing the existing One Great City sign infrastructure.
