THE University of Manitoba Students' Union (UMSU) endorsed Idle No More Thursday and pledged to provide resources and support to local organizers.
"Students recognize and understand that indigenous people and communities continue to confront the systems of colonization and oppression established by successive Canadian governments," UMSU president Bilan Arte said in a news release.
"As an organization committed to social justice and increasing access to higher education, it is natural for UMSU to support the Idle No More movement in its efforts to educate and inform the rest of the country on the issues facing indigenous people in Canada," Arte said.
UMSU is the largest students' association in Manitoba with more than 25,000 undergraduate student members.
