New store's '50s-inspired clothing celebrates womanly curves

For the modern minx or vintage vixen and all the sassy styles in between -- that's the motto behind a new Winnipeg boutique specializing in retro-modern '50s fashion.
Located in the Exchange District, Foxy Shoppe is a ultra-feminine boutique where curvaceous dames of all sizes -- from XS to XXXL -- can find form-fitting frocks inspired by the styles of the '50s, sultry underthings that celebrate the female form and fabulous heels that are sure to incite a few va-va-va-vooms.
"I opened the shop because I found that Winnipeg was missing a place to get pin-up style dresses unless they were vintage," explains Foxy Shoppe owner Pamela Hadaller. "The stuff I carry is vintage-inspired but still modern, so women with all sizes of curves, from petite to voluptuous, can wear them."
Here you can find Old Hollywood glamour mixed with modern chic: think patent leather spike heels, Marilyn Monroe-inspired party dresses and lacy lingerie à la pinup Bettie Page. You know, the kind of garments and accessories that would make any woman feel like a starlet from the era of martinis and magic.
"When I buy for the store, I look for items that celebrate a woman's form -- garments that are fun and beautiful," says Hadaller. "They are styles that if you are walking down the street, people will stop and notice you and say, 'Hey what are you wearing?' Head-turning clothing that makes you feel good."
Among the lines carried at Foxy Shoppe are Collectif U.K., a line of fab dresses that cinch at the waist and flow out into a full swing skirt; Pin-up Couture, dresses and skirt suits befitting Mad Men and costume designer Edith Head; Bettie Page Lingerie & Stockings; and Bordello, funky, flirtatious heels to complete the look.
For Hadaller, opening a store specializing in frocks, lingerie and accessories that celebrate women and their femininity is something that's near and dear to her.
"It makes me so happy to see customers smile and feel feminine and revel in who they are, because I am discovering that for myself," she says.
And the special attention to enhancing the customer experience doesn't hurt either. Foxy Shoppe offers private shopping sessions for couples and girlfriend nights, where they will close the doors to their pretty pink boutique so you can shop, try on and explore in an intimate setting.
Foxy Shoppe is located at 87 King St.
