Two boys stabbed in William Whyte

Two boys, aged 12 and 14, were in stable condition after being stabbed early Saturday morning in the William Whyte neighbourhood.

Police arrived in the area of Manitoba Avenue and Salter Street at around 3:45 a.m. after reports of a stabbing.

Manitoba Avenue resident Becky Haywood said she woke up to see police tape around a nearby house. It's unclear if the tape was related to the stabbings, but Haywood wasn't surprised.

"There's always stuff going on around here," said the mother of three, who has lived in the area for a year. "You come out in the morning and you see stuff is taped off and you're like -- 'what did I sleep through?' "

Haywood said the neighbourhood is fine during the day, though she makes sure her children are inside after nightfall.

"As soon as it's dark I'm like, get in the house," she said.

Other neighbours said they were shocked to hear news of the stabbing in a neighbourhood they described as quiet.

"It's usually pretty quiet around here," said one woman who did not want to give her name. "Lots of young guys riding around on (bicycles) but they don't make any trouble."

The two youths were taken to hospital in unstable condition. They were later upgraded to stable.

There was no word on any arrests.
