Business costs remain best in Western Canada

  • Print

For the fifth year in a row Winnipeg has been ranked the most cost-competitive city in the Midwest U.S.-Western Canada region in KPMG’s Competitive Alternatives report.

The annual survey compares costs for 19 industry-specific business operations, seven in the services sector and 12 in the manufacturing sector. Overall results are based on the average of costs expressed as an index number.

Among other things Winnipeg was ranked as the lowest costs for biomedical research and received very competitive scores in the corporate services area.

Winnipeg beat out Saskatoon, Cedar Rapids, Omaha and Sioux Falls among 26 cities in the region, all of which had costs that are more than five per cent lower than the U.S. baseline.

Winnipeg was one of 15 Canadian cities included in the survey of 107 international locales.

Moncton was the overall lowest-cost Canadian city and Vancouver the least cost competitive.
