City home buyers had more to choose from in November: report

  • Print

Winnipeg homebuyers had an unusually good selection of properties to chose from last month as more than 1,200 new listings poured onto the local resale-homes market.

"With 3,454 properties available, it’s the best November for active inventory in the last 10 years," Winnipeg Realtors Association president Richard Dettman said today in releasing the November Multiple Listings Sales (MLS) report.

"In November alone, there were 1,247 new listings, which is also the most entered for the month in 10 years," he added. "This gives potential buyers a greater selection of houses to choose from."

All of the new listings translated into a two per cent increase in unit sales for the month — 863 versus 847 in November of last year. Dollar volume of sales was up by 1.6 per cent to $219.3 million from $215.8 million.

November’s strong showing left unit sales for the first 11 months of 2013 running less than one per cent behind last year’s pace — 12,293 versus 12,392. And the dollar volume was running four per cent ahead — $3.18 billion versus $3.05 billion.

The WRA noted 2013 is the third straight year that the dollar volume of sales has topped the $3-billion mark.

Dettman noted 24 million-dollar-plus properties changed hands this year in Winnipeg. Twenty of them were detached homes and the other four were condominiums.
