City retail complex to be one of largest geothermal sites in North America

The Seasons of Tuxedo retail complex to be built west of Kenaston Boulevard near the IKEA store will be served by one of the largest geothermal heating and cooling systems in North America.
The shopping complex will be home to 50 to 60 retail outlets, financial institutions and restaurants.
Innovation, Energy and Mines Minister Dave Chomiak said this morning that the development can apply for a Green Energy Equipment Tax Credit and a district geothermal grant.
"This development proves there is a strong business case for using geothermal in Manitoba," he said.
Ed Lohrenz, a partner in the firm that has already installed much of the infrastructure for the project's geothermal heating and cooling, said higher construction costs can be offset by lower energy costs to tenants within eight years.
Fairweather Properties, the shopping centre's developer, hopes to have Phase 1 of the development completed next year.
