The Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) and Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM) are hosting a conference next October that will be the largest held in Winnipeg in the last five years.
The CDA/CSEM’s 17th annual professional conference will bring in about 2,300 delegates to the Winnipeg Convention Centre from Oct. 22-25, 2014.
"The economic spin-offs for the city are tremendous with an estimated $2.3 million in direct spending on hotels, restaurants, shopping, attractions and more," says Marina R. James, president and CEO of Economic Development Winnipeg Inc.
Work is underway on a $180 million, three-storey addition to the convention centre, adding another 340,000 square feet to the existing 492,000-square-foot facility. It is scheduled to be completed early in 2016.
The addition to the downtown facility — to be called RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg — will mean the city will have the facilities to host more and even larger conventions than the upcoming CDA/CSEM conference.
