A Winnipeg firm which designs plant growth chambers and rooms for the global agriculture research market has now become a major player in the commercial horticulture industry with the acquisition of a B.C. company.
Controlled Environments Ltd. (Conviron) announced this morning it has acquired White Rock-based Argus Control Systems Ltd. for an undisclosed sum.
Conviron said Argus is the North American leader in the design and supply of advanced automated monitoring and control systems for the horticulture, aquaculture and biotechnology industries.
It said acquisition of Argus not only provides it with new technology for its controlled environments, it also gives it access to the commercial horticulture industry, where the opportunity for growth is significant.
"The deal also enhances diversification opportunities into water treatment, aquaculture and energy data management, where the Argus platform has already demonstrated its value to clients," Conviron added.
"With our new relationship, we will be able to supply integrated control systems that will enable clients to manage their entire facility — from tissue culture and plant growth chambers to greenhouses and building systems — all on a single
platform," added Bill Mukanik, vice-president of client services at Conviron.
