Cost of new home in Manitoba rises at fast pace

The cost of a new home in Manitoba increased at one of the fastest paces in the country in June  — 0.7 per cent month over month and 4.4 per cent year over year, according to new housing price index numbers from Statistics Canada.

It was the second biggest monthly increase among the 21 cities surveyed, and the third largest June-over-June gain.

Nationally, Canada’s new housing price index was up 0.2 per cent from May and 2.3 per cent from June of last year.

CMHC said the rising cost of land was the main reason for the price spike in Winnipeg
