Home sales down in June: realtors
WINNIPEG — Local homebuyers took a bit of a breather last month, according to new figures released today.
Winnipeg Realtors said 1,487 properties were sold last month through the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS). That’s a decline of two per cent from the 1,516 that changed hands in June, 2011.
The decline in sales came in spite of nearly 2,000 new listings coming onto the market during the month — an increase of four per cent from June of last year.
However, the association noted last month’s sales total was still three per cent above the 10-year running average for June. And sales were still running four per cent ahead of last year’s pace after the first six months of the year — 6,921 units versus 6,660.
"In my view, consumer confidence is remaining firmly intact in our local market, with Winnipeg being a rock of stability despite global economic uncertainty," said WR president Shirley Przybyl.
Despite 29 fewer properties changing hands during he month, the association still set a new June record for the dollar volume of sales, at $369.4 million. That’s up nearly one per cent from June 2011’s total of $367.9 million.
