House in city sells for $2 million

Winnipeg’s real estate board chalked up only the second $2-million house sale in its 109-year history last month, but couldn’t match November 2011’s record-setting overall sales performance .

WinnipegRealtors said 847 properties sold last month through the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS). That was 33 fewer than in November of last year, and 32 less than in November 2007, which was the second best November on record for unit sales.

However, thanks to five million-dollar-plus sales, last month was the best November on record in terms of dollar volume of sales, with $215.8 million. That was a seven per cent improvement over the previous record of $202.1 million set in November of last year.

The association said the only time in its history that a home sold for $2 million or more was in 2006, when one of the city’s stately mansions sold for $2,025,000.

It said last month’s strong showing left year-to-date sales running 25 units ahead of last year’s pace — 12,392 versus 12,367— and the dollar volume running six per cent ahead — $3.05 billion versus $2.88 billion.

"We said 2011 would be a hard act to follow and it has been just that," WR president Shirley Przybyl said. "Nevertheless, we have still managed to keep pace on sales and increase our dollar volume due to modest overall price appreciation in our MLS market."
