Manitoba's retail sales edge up, bucking national trend

Manitoba was one of only four provinces to show a slight increase in month over month retail sales in June as sales in stores across the country fell short of expectations during the month.
Seasonally adjusted sales in Manitoba were $1.376 billion according to Statistics Canada up 0.1 per cent from May.
Year over year retail sales in Manitoba were up 0.4 per cent compared to 1.7 per cent nationwide.
Retail sales in Canada fell in June, widely missing expectations amid a sharp decline at retailers that sell general merchandise, gasoline, building materials and garden equipment.
Retail sales declined 0.4 per cent across the country to $38.7 billion in June, more than offsetting a gain in May according to Statistics Canada.
Economists had expected a 0.1 per cent increase.
