Multinational trade, transportation conference in city

WINNIPEG — About 125 delegates from Canada, the United States and Mexico have gathered in Winnipeg for a three-day trade and transportation conference which gets underway today at the Fairmont Hotel.

Delegates to the 2012 North America’s Corridor Coalition (NASCO) Conference, 65 of which are from outside Manitoba, include a cross-section of representatives from government, industry and academia. They will be discussing issues related to NASCO’s three pillars: transportation innovation and security, energy efficiency and logistics workforce training.

"Manitoba has been a leader and a partner in this organization since 1997 and continues to support NASCO’s efforts, which include partnering with universities, colleges, and institutions on research initiatives that are developing our workforce and greening our corridor," Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Steve Ashton said in a written statement.

NASC’s primary focus is the continued development and evolution of all the economies located along the mid-continent trade corridor, which stretches from Manitoba down through the central United States to Mexico.
