Professorship in Agriculture Risk Management established at U of M

A new professorship in Agriculture Risk Management has been established at the University of Manitoba’s I.H. Asper School of Business funded by a $750,000 donation from Guy Carpenter and Company.

"Our community of learning, discovery and engagement grows stronger every day thanks to the support and commitment of our friends and partners," says David Barnard, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Manitoba. "I want to thank Guy Carpenter & Company for its generous support of the Asper School of Business and its commitment to help enhance research that will benefit our students and faculty."

The gift will be allocated over a five-year period to create the Guy Carpenter Professorship. The selection process is just beginning and the university looks forward to announcing the selected candidate for the professorship in early 2013, according to a university release.

"Guy Carpenter’s generous gift will significantly enhance the Warren Centre for Actuarial Studies and enable the Asper School to attract new talent and offer exceptional learning opportunities," said Michael Benarroch, dean of the Asper School. "The Asper School of Business is very much looking forward to establishing this professorship and beginning the selection process for a qualified candidate."

"The actuarial program at the University of Manitoba is one of the oldest and most successful programs in North America and we are proud of our association with it," says Don Callahan, president and CEO of Guy Carpenter & Co. (Canada) Ltd, a company that provides risk management and reinsurance intermediary services. "We look forward to the research that will be funded through the chair and used in solving real-world agricultural challenges."
