Province sees another increase in jobs created

Manitoba added another 5,200 jobs in December — the fourth increase in five months — bringing the unemployment rate down to 5.2 per cent according to labour force numbers released this morning by Statistics Canada.
This province had one of the strongest performances among the provinces in a stellar month that saw the Canadian economy create 40,000 jobs beating most of the expectations for the month.
It was the second month in a row that more than 5,000 jobs were created in Manitoba and it’s brought the unemployment rate down seven per cent since October when it was at 5.6 per cent.
Compared with 12 months earlier, employment in the province was up 1.9 per cent ahead of the national 12-month change of 1.8 per cent.

Employment in construction rose by 18,000 nationally in December. In Manitoba, construction employment is up 13.3 per cent since last December.
