  • Print

Retail sales edged a little higher in Manitoba in June, new Statistics Canada data shows.

The agency said the province’s retailers rang up $1.51 billion worth of sales for the month. That was a gain of 0.2 per cent from May’s total of $1.50 billion, and was a 1.4 per cent improvement from June of last year, when just under $1.49 billion worth of goods were sold.

June’s increase followed a 0.4 per cent month-over-month gain in May.

Manitoba was one of nine province’s to post a month-over-month increase in sales. The lone exception was Saskatchewan, where sales dipped by 0.9 per cent.

Canada saw its sales rise for the sixth consecutive month, climbing by 1.1 per cent to $42.6 billion from $42.1 billion in May. The year-over-year increase was 5.9 per cent.
