Restaurant biz in province bounces back in September

WINNIPEG — Manitoba’s bars, restaurants and food services industry bounced back in September after two consecutive months of weaker sales, according to new figures released today.
Statistics Canada said industry sales grew by 0.3 per cent to $122.9 million from $122.5 million in August. The increase was the second-smallest among the eight provinces that posted month-over-month gains.
September’s sales total was also a 6.4 per cent improvement from September 2010’s tally of $115.5 million. It was the second biggest year-over-year gain after Alberta’s 9.5 per cent.
Nationally, Canada’s food services and drinking places industry posted a 0.9 per cent increase in sales from August to September, and a 5.7 per cent year-over-year improvement, StatsCan said.
