Retail sales up in province in October
Retail sales in Manitoba were up in October for the second straight month and the fourth time in five months, Statistics Canada said today.
The agency said the province’s retailers rang up $1.41 billion worth of sales during the month. That was an increase of 0.6 per cent from September’s total of $1.40 billion, and followed a 1.1 per cent gain from August to September.
Manitoba’s month-over-month increase was the second largest among the six provinces that saw stronger sales in October. Quebec led the way with a 1.8 per cent gain.
Manitoba’s October total was also a 1.1 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when $1.39 billion worth of goods were sold.
Nationally, Canada’s sales rose for a fourth consecutive month, climbing by 0.7 per cent to $39.4 billion from $39.2 billion in September. The year-over-year gain was 1.7 per cent.
