Manitoba’s manufacturing industry was on the rebound in May, with sales up 1.2 per cent after two consecutive monthly declines.
Statistics Canada said today that manufacturers shipped out $1.3 billion worth of goods during the month. That was up from $1.28 billion in April.
The modest increase followed month-over-month declines of 1.9 per cent in March and three per cent in April.
But while May’s total was an improvement from the previous month, it was still down slightly — 0.2 per cent — from a year earlier, the data shows.
Nationally, manufacturing sales rose 1.6 per cent to $51.6 billion. It was the fourth increase in five months for Canada’s manufacturing industry.
Statistics Canada said a total of six provinces saw stronger sales in May, with almost two-thirds of the gain concentrated in Ontario.
