Small business owners' confidence levels drop in Manitoba

Confidence levels among Manitoba small business owners fell for the third consecutive month in September, according to the latest survey by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

The CFIB said Manitoba’s Business Barometer Index dropped 3.4 points to 54.7 in September.

The only province with lower confidence levels was Prince Edward Island, at 44.6.

Newfoundland and Labrador had the highest confidence levels at 75, while Canada’s index rose by two points to 62.

The CFIB said the main operating challenge cited by Manitoba small businesses owners was the shortage of skilled labour. The top cost pressure was from taxes and regulations.
