Target confirms list of stores and schedule of openings

Target Corporation has confirmed its list and schedule of Canadian store openings including four Manitoba locations.

There are no surprises in the list.

The Minneapolis based style-conscious discount retailer acquired Zellers locations across the country and plans to open 125 to 135 stores in Canada starting in March/April 2013.

In spring 2013 it’s officially planning to have Target stores open in former Zellers locations in the Shoppers Mall in Brandon and Kildonan Place Shopping Centre and Southdale Centre in Winnipeg.

By winter, 2013 the company said it will open at the former Grant Park Zellers location.

The company has said the conversion of each Zellers location will cost about $10 million-to-$11 million apiece and each store requires a staff of between 150-to-200 full-and part-time staff.

Later this year Target will confirm additional store locations that will open starting in early 2014 and beyond.

The Free Press has reported that Target is in negotiations to build a large store on a 3.2 hectares piece of land on the northwest corner of the current site of the Canada Inn Stadium, which is scheduled to be demolished after the current CFL season.
