No injuries in explosion outside of fertilizer plant near Saskatoon
SASKATOON - Fire crews responded to an explosion at a fertilizer plant outside of Saskatoon.
Employees of Richardson Pioneer said they heard an explosion Thursday morning coming from equipment outside the building meant to transfer product from bins to be mixed and loaded for delivery.
Battalion Chief Sgt. Andy Kotelmach (koh-tul-match) says the substance which exploded was a sulphur-based product.
Fire crews used thermal imaging to make sure there was no flame before the company opened the hatch and dumped the remaining hot chemical into a truck.
There were no injuries and no damage estimate was available.
The plant is located at the junction of Highways 5 and 41.
