WINNIPEG-BASED Ameba TV has received a silver 2013 National Parenting Publications Award (NAPPA) award for its digital kids TV service.
Ameba is a digital television subscription service -- almost like a Netflix for young children -- that gives kids access to a database of shows while allowing parents to set parameters to control what their children watch.
For $3.99 per month, the Ameba service is available on Google TV's Internet-connected TV platform, LG Smart TV and any Internet platform viewable on iPads, iPhones, PCs and laptops.
Its content library contains more than 2,000 hours of educational, preschool, music and multi-language programming aimed at children age two to 12.
NAPPA's independent parent testers evaluate hundreds of submissions for their innovation, safety, quality and the degree to which they make parenting easier. It gave 25 products gold awards, 60 received silver and 41 were chosen as honours.
"Ameba is fun, exciting, and built specifically to make it easy for kids to use on their own. They can choose for themselves what they want to watch and dig as deep as they like into our huge library of shows," said Tony Havelka, founder and CEO of Ameba TV. "This NAPPA award is a major validation for us."
