Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
Letters From Rupert’s Land, 1826-1840
In spite of the need to constantly jump from text to footnotes, this book is a wonderful blend of history and business. Hargrave’s personal glimpses into the operations of the Hudson’s Bay Company during his tenure there provide a fascinating look at the business challenges of the 1800s. Issues such as organizational structure, recruitment and retention were foremost. The book is detailed, but is a great read and also demonstrates how sophisticated businesses were even in those days.
