Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets
TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (11,115.3 down 107.82 points):
Lundin Mining Corp. (TSX:LUN). Miner. Down 16 cents or 3.8 per cent at $4.05 on 8,108,612 shares. The base metals sector was down 0.63 per cent even as March copper added six cents to US$2.91 a pound. Commodity prices were depressed last week as debt concerns pushed the U.S. dollar higher.
Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSX:ELR). Miner. Up three cents or 2.46 per cent at $1.25 on 7,660,460 shares.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Planes and trains. Down 11 cents or 2.02 per cent at $5.34 on 6,580,279 shares. Chinese railway manufacturer Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive threatened to sue Monday over the tendering process involving an estimated $3-billion-plus contract for cars for the Montreal subway system which gives Quebec-based Bombardier and France's Alstom the inside track.
Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TCK.B). Miner. Up 30 cents or 0.88 per cent at $34.50 on 6,035,958 shares.
Tethys Petroleum Ltd. (TSX:TPL). Oil and gas. Up 36 cents or 34.95 per cent at $1.39 on 4,974,912 shares. The company said initial testing results on the upper zone of its AKD01 oil discovery in Kazakhstan had shown "tremendous potential."
Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Down 49 cents or 4.37 per cent at $10.72 on 4,850,870 shares. The gold sector was the biggest percentage decliner on the TSX, off 3.4 per cent even as the April gold contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange gained $13.40 to US$1,065.10 an ounce.
TSX Venture Exchange (1,460.6 up 5.19 points):
Appleton Exploration Inc. (TSXV:AEX). Mineral exploration. Down nine cents or 28.81 per cent at 21 cents on 10,232,481 shares.
Novus Energy Inc. (TSXV:NVS). Down five cents or 5.38 per cent at 88 cents on 4,596,523 shares.
Companies reporting major news:
The Canpotex marketing partnership, owned by PotashCorp. (TSX:POT), Agrium Inc. (TSX:AGU) and Mosaic Corp. (NYSE:MOS), agreed to sell 350,000 tonnes of Canadian potash to China's Sinofert at "competitive prices" on the spot market. Potash shares slipped $1.71 or 1.54 per cent to $109.34 on 790,835 shares, while Agrium was down $1.08 or 1.71 per cent at $62.02 on 740,461 shares.
Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN). Technology. Up six cents or 2.25 per cent at $2.73 on 326,812 shares. Wi-LAN said it had signed a letter of intent to settle a patent lawsuit filed by Telus Communications Inc. (TSX:T). Telus shares dipped 10 cents or 0.31 per cent to $32.53 on 703,840 shares.
