Today -- in Washington, the U.S. Institute for Supply Management releases its manufacturing index for August and the U.S. Commerce Department releases construction spending for July.

Wednesday -- in Ottawa, the Bank of Canada announces its decision on the target for the overnight rate. In Detroit, automakers release vehicle sales for August.

Thursday -- in Ottawa, Statistics Canada releases the Canadian international merchandise trade figures for July. In New York, a number of chain retailers release August sales.

Friday -- in Ottawa, Statistics Canada releases the labour force survey for August, labour productivity, hourly compensation and unit labour cost for the second quarter and the stocks of principal field crops as of July 31, 2014. In Washington U.S. Labor Department releases employment data for August.
