Greek bank issues warning
ATHENS -- An exit from the euro would see Greeks lose more than half their annual income and prompt a rise in unemployment and inflation, the country's largest bank has warned.
A National Bank of Greece study was published Tuesday as Greece heads to new general elections on June 17, amid Europe-wide concern of broader financial turmoil if Greece's place in the currency is threatened by a victory for an anti-austerity party.
Spain retail sales plummet
MADRID, Spain -- A record drop in retail sales added to Spain's woes on Tuesday as the government struggled to boost market confidence in the crippled banking industry and investors remained doubtful of the country's ability to get a grip on its debts.
Retail sales dropped 9.8 per cent year-on-year in April as the country battled its second recession in three years and a 24.4 per cent jobless rate.
Yellow Media downgraded
MONTREAL -- Rating agency DBRS downgraded directories publisher Yellow Media to CCC from a low B, saying a decline in its print revenues continues and the Montreal company could face further downgrades.
